| It is important
that stockpiled soils are carefully managed to ensure
good planting conditions.
Stockpiled soils are likely to have
been subjected to a variety of disturbances and the
resulting quality of the stockpile is often unknown.
Stockpiled soils typically display
one or more of the following problems: contamination
with subsoil or non-soil rubbish, structural degradation,
compaction, anaerobism (oxygen depletion)/ poor aeration,
adverse moisture content, excessive vegetation content.
To avoid potentially stressful planting
conditions, these problems should be identified and
addressed.
Voelcker Consultants offer a complete
service to assist in good stockpile management, providing
an accurate assessment of stockpile quality and guidance
to improve and/or maintain soil conditions to a suitable
standard.
Our service will help to :
- Identify serious soil problems that
could cause significant plant losses
- Increase the likelihood of successful
plant establishment
- Suggest practical remedies for
soil problems
- Maintain stockpile quality

and preparation for planting
There are three principle elements
to this service:
| Stockpile
Assessment |
On-site examination
and sampling of stockpile. Examination includes
assessment of stockpile consistency, soil texture,
stone content, soil colour, presence of fill materials
and soil moisture content and ease of handling.
|
| Laboratory Analysis |
Laboratory analysis to
assess relevant soil characteristics |
| Report Preparation |
Fully interpretative report
to include discussion of soil quality and full recommendations
to maintain and/or improve soil conditions as appropriate
to the proposed end use. |
Full recommendations are given
to maintain/improve soil quality as appropriate
