Monitoring, Testing and Analysis

Background

ESG have been active in analytical chemistry for over 140 years, originally Dr. Augustus Voelcker and Sons, the firm was founded as an analytical and consulting chemists. This long history of undertaking analytical work gives us the experience needed to devise appropriate solutions for the analysis of soils, waters and other environmental media to suit the needs of our clients.

Analytical Testing

We manage analytical testing primarily generated from our site investigations; we also undertake sampling and ‘analysis only’ work for a number of clients.

This work is undertaken through a combination of our in-house and our preferred external sub-contract laboratories. Samples are only sent to approved laboratories which are UKAS accredited. We also offer an interpretation of analytical data service.

Analytical Packages

The choice of determinants for analysis of samples should be made on a site specific basis, considering a number of factors including past, current and future site use as well as visual and olfactory observations of the materials encountered.

However, it is still useful to have a suite of contaminants as a screening tool for sites where no information is available pertaining to historic site activities or where Made Ground is present. The following packages are presented as examples of those commonly in use:

VCON1 - Standard Contamination Package 1 (Former ICRCL) (Soils)

VCON2 - Standard Contamination Package 2 (Soils)

VCON3 - Standard Contamination Package 3 (Soils)

Sampling Services

As part of our geoenvironmental consulting services we are able to arrange for the collection of samples and undertake the sampling as required.

Monitoring Work

We have in house landfill/ground gas monitoring capabilities and undertake monitoring of gas wells for a number of contract clients. Monitoring capabilities include a range of VOCs, CH4, CO, CO2, O2, H2S, flow rates and combustible gases.
